Odisha Cracks Down: Ban on 10‑Year‑Old Commercial Vehicles

The Odisha government has enforced a ban on commercial vehicles older than 10 years if they are registered in other states.

The decision, finalised during the 301st State Transport Authority (STA) meeting on July 19, 2023, is aimed at phasing out unfit vehicles, reducing emissions, and improving road safety standards.

Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) across the state have been instructed to ensure strict compliance.

Under the directive, such vehicles will not be permitted to operate within Odisha, nor will they be eligible for new permits, ownership transfers, address changes, or payment of transport taxes in the state.

Officials believe the move will help curb pollution from ageing fleets and promote cleaner, safer transport across Odisha.
