Subarnapur Police Seize Cough Syrup Worth Rs 20 Lakh, Two Detained

Subarnapur police intercepted a pickup truck near Sadar block square and uncovered a major illegal consignment of cough syrup.

The vehicle, disguised as carrying soft drink crates, was found to contain 150 packets comprising 3,750 bottles of cough syrup, valued at approximately Rs 20 lakh.

The consignment reportedly originated from Cuttack and was en route to the Bargarh and Bolangir districts. Two individuals linked to the vehicle were detained during the operation.

The seizure was conducted under the supervision of a magistrate, who oversaw the counting process. Authorities have launched an investigation into the trafficking network behind the consignment.

Local residents expressed concern over the growing misuse of cough syrup in the region and urged authorities to intensify highway checks and strengthen monitoring of transport routes.

This incident highlights the rising challenge of pharmaceutical trafficking in Odisha and the need for stricter enforcement measures.
