IMD Warns of Thunderstorms Across Odisha Till April 9

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued thunderstorm alerts across Odisha, warning of severe weather conditions until April 9. On April 6, 26 districts were placed under a yellow alert, while four northern districts — Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar — face an orange warning for intense thunderstorms, lightning, and wind speeds reaching 40–50 km/h.

The IMD has cautioned residents to remain indoors during lightning strikes and avoid waterlogged areas.

Farmers have been advised to delay agricultural activities and safeguard standing crops from gusty winds and heavy rainfall.

Although skies cleared briefly in the morning, evening showers returned with strong gusts, signalling the persistence of unstable weather patterns.

Thunderstorm activity is expected to continue across coastal and northern Odisha until April 9, with 23 districts remaining under yellow alert tomorrow.

Authorities urge the public to stay vigilant and follow safety guidelines to minimise risks during this period of heightened weather activity.
