Puri Srimandir Observes ‘Paita Lagi’; Devotees Await Darshan Resumption

Puri: Devotees will not be able to have darshan of the deities at the Jagannath Temple today between 6 PM and 10 PM as the sacred ‘Paita Lagi’ ritual is being performed.

The ritual, observed on Baisakh Krushna Chaturthi, involves the Daitapati servitors adorning Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra with the holy thread (Paita).

This centuries‑old tradition symbolises divine protection, purity, and renewal of spiritual energy.

Temple authorities have made arrangements to ensure the ritual is conducted smoothly with discipline and devotion.

While darshan remains suspended during this period, devotees are urged to respect the sanctity of the ritual, which is considered vital in safeguarding the deities and preserving the temple’s spiritual heritage.
