Odisha Coastal Highway Project Gets Centre’s Nod at ₹8,300 Cr
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of a new coastal highway in Odisha at an estimated cost of Rs 8,300.79 crore.
The project will connect Rameswar in Khurda district to Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district, spanning 160.18 km.
The highway will be built in two phases: a 79.4 km four‑lane stretch from Rameswar to Konark in Puri district, and an 80.78 km two‑lane stretch from Konark to Paradip.
Covering Khurda, Puri, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur districts, the corridor will integrate with existing national and state highways, including NH‑316, using advanced engineering techniques.
Vehicles will be able to travel at speeds up to 100 km/h, with hotels and food parks planned along the route to boost tourism.
The project is awaiting clearance from the Ministry of Environment and Forests, which is expected soon.
Officials said the highway will not only improve connectivity but also serve as a major driver of tourism along Odisha’s coastline.
A broader coastal highway from Gopalpur in Odisha to Digha in West Bengal had earlier been proposed, and this corridor marks a significant step in that vision.
