Odisha CM Majhi Assures Mahanadi Dispute Resolution by Diwali 2026

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced that the long‑standing Mahanadi water dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh will be resolved by Diwali 2026.

The assurance came after a high‑level meeting in New Delhi chaired by Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, attended by Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai and senior officials from both states.

Majhi emphasised Odisha’s strong case, highlighting the importance of safeguarding farmers’ future, water rights, and resource security.

He stressed that constructive dialogue and mutual cooperation would pave the way for a permanent solution.

The Centre, through the Central Water Commission, will facilitate discussions at ministerial and official levels over the next three months.

Majhi noted that Odisha had long been open to dialogue, but Chhattisgarh’s recent willingness enabled the Centre to convene this meeting.

Expressing confidence, Majhi said, “By Diwali, we will certainly reach a good decision. Under the triple‑engine government, this dispute will be resolved.”
