Odisha Braces for Heavy Rain as Cyclonic System Approaches
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for Odisha as a cyclonic circulation over northern Thailand is expected to intensify into a low‑pressure area over the Andaman Sea by September 19.
The system is likely to move toward the south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts over the next few days, triggering widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across multiple districts.
According to IMD forecasts, heavy rain is expected in Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, and Gajapati on September 16–17, with thunderstorms and gusty winds across 22 districts including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Khordha, and Puri.
The rainfall activity will continue through September 21, affecting districts such as Kendujhar, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, and Ganjam.
Authorities have urged residents to remain alert and follow official advisories as the system develops.
Local administrations are advised to prepare for possible waterlogging, disruption of transport, and damage to crops.
