Odisha Bandh Tomorrow: Private Buses to Operate, Auto Services Halted for 12 Hours

Bhubaneswar: Commuters across Odisha are likely to face mixed transport conditions during the statewide bandh scheduled for tomorrow, as private bus services will continue operations while auto-rickshaw services remain suspended for 12 hours.

According to reports, the decision is expected to provide relief to long-distance travellers but may create significant last-mile connectivity challenges in urban areas.

The Private Bus Owners’ Association has announced that private buses will operate normally across the state during the bandh, maintaining connectivity for passengers travelling between districts and cities.

The association stated that public transportation is an essential service and therefore buses would not participate in the shutdown.

At the same time, the association has urged the state government and law enforcement agencies to ensure adequate security arrangements for buses, passengers, and staff members during operations on the bandh day.

In contrast, the Auto Drivers’ Association has extended support to the bandh and announced a 12-hour ‘Chaka Bandh,’ resulting in the suspension of auto-rickshaw services from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Both conventional and app-based auto services are expected to remain off the roads during this period.

The suspension of auto services is likely to affect daily commuters in cities, particularly those travelling to railway stations, bus terminals, markets, offices, and healthcare facilities.

Residents may have to explore alternative transport arrangements for local travel.

However, emergency services, including ambulances and medical transport vehicles, have been exempted from the bandh, ensuring uninterrupted access to healthcare during the shutdown period.

Authorities are expected to monitor the situation closely and maintain law and order while facilitating the movement of essential services across the state.
