Odisha Police Tighten Security Ahead of Bandh, DGP Stresses Peace and Public Safety

Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the proposed Odisha Bandh, Director General of Police (DGP) Binaytosh Mishra conducted a comprehensive review of the state’s security preparedness and directed police officers to ensure peace, public safety, and uninterrupted essential services.

A high-level review meeting was held through video conferencing at the State Police Headquarters, bringing together senior police officers from across Odisha to assess law and order arrangements ahead of the bandh.

The discussions focused on maintaining public safety, managing traffic movement, and safeguarding government and public property.

During the meeting, district Superintendents of Police were instructed to continuously monitor developments through real-time inputs from police stations and field units.

The DGP directed officers to intensify patrolling, strengthen naka checking, and deploy adequate security personnel at vulnerable locations, including highways, railway stations, and other sensitive areas.

Mishra also emphasised the need to identify likely protest sites in advance and adopt preventive measures to avoid any untoward incidents.

Police officials were asked to strengthen intelligence gathering and maintain close surveillance on activities that could potentially disrupt peace and normal life.

The Odisha Police chief instructed law enforcement agencies to prevent incidents of violence, vandalism, forcible closure of businesses, and disruption of transportation services during the bandh.

He made it clear that strict legal action would be taken against anyone attempting to take the law into their own hands.

Local police units have also been directed to work closely with community representatives and peace committees to maintain harmony and ensure a peaceful atmosphere throughout the state.

Senior officials, including ADGs, DIGs, SPs, and the Police Commissioners of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, participated in the review meeting.

With extensive security arrangements in place, the Odisha Police aim to ensure that normal life remains largely unaffected while maintaining law and order during the bandh.
