Odisha Advances Data Democratisation with NADA Training in Bhubaneswar | World Bank‑Supported OSCRGP

Bhubaneswar, Nov 17: The Directorate of Economics & Statistics (DE&S), Odisha, under the Planning & Convergence Department, has launched a five‑day advanced training programme on “Data Cataloguing using NADA (National Data Archive) – Phase 2.” The initiative, held at the Nabakrushna Choudhury Centre for Development Studies (NCDS), marks a significant step toward strengthening the state’s statistical ecosystem.

The programme was inaugurated by Mr Prakash Chandra Mohanty, Additional Secretary of the Planning & Convergence Department and Director of NCDS, alongside senior officials, including Ms Rashmi Kabi, Dr Bijaya Bhusan Nanda, and Ms Sudha Priya Das. International NADA expert Mr Somnath Sambhudas is leading the training sessions.

Participants are being trained in advanced metadata creation, documenting study methodologies, mapping data dictionaries, and publishing datasets in the NADA repository.

The sessions emphasise the importance of transparent, accessible, and well‑documented statistical data for evidence‑based decision‑making.

This initiative is part of the World Bank‑supported Odisha State Capacity and Resilience Growth Programme (OSCRGP), which aims to improve transparency, accessibility, and quality in statistical systems.

Odisha has already set a national benchmark by becoming the first state to implement NADA for cataloguing and publishing datasets for public use.

With its Data Dissemination Policy and Implementation Guidelines in place, Odisha is positioning itself as a leader in data democratisation, ensuring that researchers, policymakers, and the public can access reliable statistics for informed governance.
