Murmu & Modi Inaugurate Major Irrigation Projects in Odisha
Nayagarh: President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly inaugurated two key irrigation projects in Odisha, marking a significant boost for the state’s agricultural infrastructure.
The Kusumi Smart Irrigation Project in Nayagarh, built at a cost of Rs 230.40 crore, will provide assured irrigation to 3,745 hectares across 49 villages under 10 Pani Panchayats.
The project is expected to enhance water use efficiency and improve crop productivity for thousands of farmers.
In Balangir district, the Changaria Minor Irrigation Project in Khaprakhol block will irrigate 57 hectares, directly benefiting 522 small and marginal farmers.
The initiative aims to reduce dependence on monsoon rains and ensure sustainable agricultural growth.
Both projects reflect the government’s commitment to expanding irrigation coverage, strengthening rural livelihoods, and empowering farmers with reliable water resources.
Local communities have welcomed the move as a step toward long‑term agricultural resilience.
