Jagannath Rath Yatra Celebrated in Bahrain Amid West Asia Conflict Concerns

Bahrain: Defying the tense backdrop of missile attacks and war fears in West Asia, the world-renowned Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath was celebrated with grandeur in Bahrain.

The event was jointly organised by the Bahrain Odia Society and ISKCON Bahrain at the historic 200-year-old Shrinath Ji Temple in Manama, reflecting the rich spiritual traditions of Puri Jagannath Temple.

The festival strictly followed the rituals and calendar of Puri, beginning with the Snana Yatra and culminating in the vibrant Pahandi Vijay procession.

The sacred Chhera Pahanra service was performed by Dr Arun Kumar Praharaj, Founder-President of the Bahrain Odia Society.

Despite regional tensions, nearly 8,000 devotees gathered to pull the divine chariots.

The celebration also witnessed participation from dignitaries including senior officials of the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence, the director of the Bahrain for All initiative, top diplomats from the Indian Embassy, and the Ambassador of Nepal.

The city of Manama resonated with devotional chants, Vedic hymns, and soulful kirtans.

Odia expatriates enriched the atmosphere with Odissi dance performances and devotional music, transforming the temple courtyard into a vibrant replica of Puri’s Grand Road.

Continuous Mahaprasad distribution ensured no devotee returned empty-handed.

The festivities will continue with a nine-day Gundicha Temple celebration at Bahrain’s Sagaiya Jagannath Temple.

Dr Arun Kumar Praharaj expressed gratitude to the Bahraini monarchy, stating:
“For the past 30 years, the Bahrain Odia Society and ISKCON Bahrain have worked together to showcase Lord Jagannath’s culture of love and peace.

We deeply appreciate the rulers of Bahrain for fostering an environment of respect, freedom, and harmony.”

On this occasion, ISKCON Bahrain issued a global appeal urging all ISKCON temples worldwide to honour the rituals of Puri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) and celebrate Snana Yatra and Rath Yatra strictly on the prescribed dates.
