Hirakud Dam Closes Six Gates as Water Level Declines in Sambalpur

Sambalpur: Authorities at Hirakud Dam have shut six sluice gates while keeping two open, one on each side, as water levels continue to fall.

The reservoir currently stands at 611.33 feet, with live storage at 1.482 million acre‑feet, accounting for 38% of total capacity.

Average inflow has been recorded at 1,14,157 cusecs, while outflow remains higher at 1,69,325 cusecs, with significant discharge through the spillway and power channel.

Power generation from Burla and Chiplima Power Houses reached 209.042 MW during the day.

Compared to last year, the reservoir level is 2.71 feet lower, highlighting a steady decline in water storage.

The update underscores the dam’s critical role in balancing irrigation, flood control, and electricity generation in Odisha.
