Heritage Marathon in Bhubaneswar Unites Youth and Culture

Bhubaneswar witnessed a vibrant celebration of Odia heritage on April 5, 2026, as thousands of runners participated in the Heritage Marathon across the historic Ekamra Kshetra.

The event, organised by the Department of Sports and Youth Services as part of the “Odia Pakhya” festivities, began at the Mukteswar Temple and concluded at the Rajarani Temple, weaving through iconic cultural landmarks.

Participants included athletes, youth groups, differently-abled individuals, and senior officials, reflecting the inclusive spirit of the marathon.

Winners were honoured with special recognition: Chandan Samal secured first place, followed by Siddharth Kumar Mishra and Bijay Agrawal. All runners received medals as encouragement.

The marathon was more than a sporting event—it was a cultural bridge connecting Odisha’s youth with its rich heritage.

Leaders and dignitaries emphasised that preserving temples and monuments is a collective responsibility vital to Odia identity.

Olympian Anuradha Biswal and actress Sangeeta Shibani added star power to the occasion, while officials, including Commissioner Bhupendra Singh Punia and MLA representatives, underscored the importance of heritage preservation.

The Heritage Marathon stood as a symbol of pride, urging the younger generation to embrace their roots and reinforcing the message that safeguarding Odisha’s cultural legacy strengthens identity and inspires future generations.
