Odisha Govt Launches Atal Bus Stand Scheme to Transform Public Transport
The Odisha government has unveiled the ambitious Atal Bus Stand (ABS) scheme, aimed at revolutionising public transport infrastructure across the state.
Under this initiative, bus stands will be developed at district headquarters, sub-divisional headquarters, block headquarters, urban local bodies, and major tourist destinations.
The scheme introduces a classification system—A, B, and C categories—based on passenger demand and transport needs.
All existing bus stands will be integrated under a unified framework to ensure standardised development, operation, and management.
Recognised as official public transport infrastructure, these bus stands will serve both government and private operators, enhancing efficiency and commuter convenience.
The Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) will implement the project, backed by a budget of Rs 3,400 crore through FY 2031–32.
Beyond infrastructure, the ABS scheme is expected to strengthen social unity, drive economic growth, promote tourism, and support environmental sustainability, positioning Odisha as a leader in modern public transport planning.
