Odisha Police Football Teams Shine at National Championship
The Odisha Police football teams have brought pride to the state at the 74th B.N. Mullik All India Police Football Championship held in Hyderabad.
The women’s team finished as runners-up after a hard-fought final against Assam Rifles, while the men’s team secured fourth place overall.
Individual brilliance added to the glory: Pyari Khaka (WC/475, UPD Bhubaneswar) clinched the Golden Boot in the women’s category with seven goals, and Bijay Behera (C/327, 1st IR Battalion, Koraput) won the Golden Boot in the men’s category with eight goals.
The teams were felicitated at the State Police Headquarters by DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, who praised their dedication and said their success would inspire Odisha’s youth to pursue football.
Senior officers, including ADG (Modernisation) Soumendra Kumar Priyadarshi and ADG (Law & Order) Sanjay Kumar, attended the ceremony, coordinated by Sports Officer Neelamadhab Swain.
This achievement is seen as a matter of pride for the Odisha Police force and a boost to the state’s growing sports culture.
