10.6K Odisha Weavers Secured Under Social Schemes

Over 10,600 handloom weavers and workers in Odisha have been brought under social security schemes implemented by the Union Ministry of Textiles.

According to official data, 10,601 individuals are now covered under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) since their inception.

In addition, 72 award-winning weavers facing financial hardship have received assistance under the National Handloom Development Programme.

To ensure wider awareness, the Ministry of Textiles has been coordinating with state governments through Weavers Service Centres (WSCs), organising camps and chaupals to inform workers about available benefits.

The Handloom Helpline Centre is also being leveraged to disseminate information nationwide, ensuring that Odisha’s weaving community can access timely support and safeguard their livelihoods.
