Odisha Braces for Heavy Rain as Monsoon System Strengthens
A low‑pressure system has formed over coastal Gangetic West Bengal and the northwest Bay of Bengal, driven by an upper‑air cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level.
The system is expected to move west‑northwestwards along the monsoon trough over the next two days, intensifying rainfall activity across Odisha.
The IMD has issued an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Baragarh, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj districts.
A yellow warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, and Balangir.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are likely in Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
Authorities have urged residents to remain alert, avoid waterlogged areas, and follow official advisories as the system intensifies.
