₹1,700 Cr PMGSY-IV Kickstarts Odisha’s Rural Road Revolution
Bhubaneswar, May 2: The Union Government has sanctioned Rs 1,700 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-IV (PMGSY-IV) to transform Odisha’s rural infrastructure.
The initiative was formally launched in the Rayagada district by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on May 1.
In its first phase, the scheme will cover 827 road projects spanning 1,700 km across eight districts — Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Khordha, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, and Sambalpur.
The project aims to connect 898 habitations that previously lacked all-weather road access, thereby improving connectivity to schools, healthcare facilities, and markets.
Complementary allocations include Rs 630.61 crore under PMAY-G for housing, Rs 868.71 crore under MGNREGA for livelihood security, and Rs 30.07 crore under WDC-PMKSY 2.0 for irrigation and sustainable agriculture.
Coinciding with Labour Day, the launch underscored the government’s commitment to rural empowerment. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reiterated the state’s vision of “Samruddha Odisha, Viksit Odisha”, highlighting infrastructure as the backbone of inclusive growth.
