Woman, Son Allege Custodial Torture at Kendrapara Police Station
Bhubaneswar/Kendrapara: A woman and her son from Giriapahi village in Kendrapara district have accused police at Talchua Marine Police Station of custodial torture.
Annapurna Mandal (58) alleged that she was dragged by her hair, slapped, and humiliated by IIC Sandhyarani Jena, while her son Ananta Kumar Mandal was beaten, strangled, and threatened inside the lock‑up.
The duo claimed they were detained from 6 pm to 11:40 pm on May 25, forced to sign blank papers, and had Ananta’s phone seized. Family members later carried them home due to injuries.
On May 26, both were admitted to Rajnagar CHC, where doctors confirmed injury marks on Annapurna’s hands and on Ananta’s neck, legs, and back.
Pattamundai SDPO Sukanta Kumar Patra confirmed receipt of the complaint and said the Superintendent of Police has been informed.
Authorities assured that an investigation is underway and appropriate action will follow.
