Teen Girl Missing After Jumping into Mahanadi in Sambalpur
Sambalpur: A 14‑year‑old girl from Mayabagicha has gone missing after allegedly jumping into the Mahanadi River from Chaunrpur Bridge late Saturday night.
According to reports, the girl had an argument with her male friend before leaving home.
She told her family she was visiting a neighbour but instead met the boy at the bridge, where another quarrel occurred.
Around 10 pm, she phoned a neighbouring girl, saying she was about to jump into the river.
Alarmed locals alerted authorities, and Fire Services launched a search operation. Strong currents and darkness hindered efforts, but boats and divers resumed searching Sunday morning.
Police have detained the male friend for questioning, while the neighbour who received the call is also being interrogated.
The incident has shocked the community, raising concerns about adolescent mental health and the need for timely intervention in distress cases.
