Sudarsan Pattnaik Crafts Lord Shiva Sand Sculpture on Shravan Somvar at Puri Beach

Puri, Odisha: On the auspicious occasion of Pratham Shravan Somvar, internationally acclaimed sand artist and Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik unveiled an 8‑foot sand sculpture of Lord Shiva at Puri Beach.

The artwork, created with the support of students from the Sudarsan Sand Art Institute, depicts Lord Shiva in a meditative form surrounded by symbolic elements including the Shiva Linga, Trishul, Damaru, crescent moon, serpent, Rudraksha beads, Kanwariyas with Kanwar, and the River Ganga flowing from his locks.

Carrying the devotional message “Har Har Mahadev”, Pattnaik dedicated the sculpture to world peace, good health, happiness, and prosperity, invoking Mahadev’s blessings for strength and compassion.

The creation also highlights the cultural significance of Shravan, when millions of devotees across India fast and pray to Lord Shiva.

Pattnaik, who has represented India in over 65 international sand art championships and festivals, continues to use his art to promote India’s cultural heritage, devotion, unity, peace, and humanity.
