Similipal Records 0°C as Cold Wave Intensifies Across Odisha | IMD Forecasts Further Dip
The ongoing cold wave across Odisha has plunged temperatures to extreme lows, with Similipal in Mayurbhanj district recording a bone‑chilling 0°C. According to the Regional Chief Conservator of Forests, Upper Barakamuda touched freezing point, while Chahala reported 2°C.
Bareipani and Gudugudia followed with 5°C, underscoring the severity of the cold spell in northern Odisha.
Across the state, 23 cities recorded night temperatures below 10°C in the past 24 hours.
Udayagiri in the hilly region reported 3°C, Phulbani and Rourkela hovered around 5°C, and Jharsuguda stood at 5.4°C. Daringbadi, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Angul also remained under severe chill, with readings between 7–8°C.
In the twin cities, Bhubaneswar registered 10.2°C while Cuttack dipped to 9.6°C.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast further drops of 1–1.5°C over the next three to four days.
Dense fog has already disrupted daily life, with very dense fog reported in Boudh and Nayagarh, while Bhawanipatna, Paralakhemundi, Phulbani, and Rayagada also witnessed foggy conditions.
Authorities have issued advisories urging residents in Boudh, Nayagarh, and Koraput to remain cautious.
With icy winds sweeping across Odisha, the state braces for several more days of biting cold and reduced visibility, making this one of the harshest winter spells in recent years.
