Sambalpur Women’s College in Turmoil Over Misconduct Case

Sambalpur, April 25: Controversy has erupted at Sambalpur Women’s College after students accused English lecturer Dr. Pitambar Behera of making obscene remarks and intimidating them.

The allegations, raised by postgraduate students, included vulgar expressions and unauthorised recordings of departmental discussions.

Following protests by parents and the social organisation Progressive Sambalpur, authorities transferred Behera to Dhenkanal Autonomous College.

The college’s English Department Head, Mansbini Parida, was also transferred to Titilagarh Women’s Degree College in Balangir district.

The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) initiated an inquiry, but no disciplinary action was taken, sparking criticism that the transfers were aimed at defusing tension rather than ensuring accountability.

A police complaint has since been lodged, intensifying calls for justice and transparency in handling misconduct within educational institutions.
