The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a five‑day weather advisory for Odisha, forecasting widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds between June 14 and June 18, 2026.
Southern districts including Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Koraput, and Malkangiri have been placed under an Orange Warning, with heavy rainfall and wind speeds expected to reach 50–60 kmph.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant as severe weather may disrupt daily life, damage crops, and affect infrastructure.
Day‑Wise Forecast
- June 14: Heavy rain and thunderstorms with gusty winds up to 60 kmph.
- June 15: Continued rainfall and storm activity in southern districts.
- June 16–18: Yellow Alert across coastal and interior Odisha with moderate rainfall and winds of 40–50 kmph.
Impact on Agriculture & Infrastructure
Meteorologists warn of potential damage to banana plantations, vegetable cultivation, and young horticultural crops.
Strong winds may also cause falling tree branches, damage to temporary structures, and disruption of power supply.
Safety Advisory
Residents are advised to:

- Avoid unnecessary travel
- Seek shelter in safe structures
- Follow official weather bulletins
The advisory comes as the southwest monsoon strengthens across Odisha, bringing relief from summer heat but increasing the risk of localised thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
