Oil‑Laden Truck Falls 80 Feet in Koraput, Driver Critical

Koraput, Odisha: A major accident occurred on Sunday evening when an oil‑laden truck plunged nearly 80 feet into a gorge at Langalapakhana Ghat near Baipariguda on National Highway‑326.

The truck, en route from Jaypore to Malkangiri, lost balance while negotiating a sharp curve.

The driver sustained critical injuries and was first rushed to Baipariguda Medical Centre before being referred to Jaypore District Hospital for advanced treatment.

Local residents, alerted by the loud crash, rushed to the spot and helped rescue the driver.

Police from Baipariguda reached the site and initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident.

The Langalapakhana Ghat stretch of NH‑326 is notorious for accidents due to steep gradients and damaged road surfaces.

Despite repeated repairs, the section remains hazardous for heavy vehicles.

The incident has reignited calls for urgent road maintenance and stricter monitoring of truck movement in the region.

Recovery operations continued late into the evening as the truck sustained severe damage.

Authorities are now assessing road conditions and considering additional safety measures to prevent future mishaps.
