Odisha Sizzles as Temperatures Cross 40°C, IMD Issues Heatwave Warning

Bhubaneswar, April 11: Odisha is reeling under a severe heatwave as temperatures soar past 40°C in several districts, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow warning.

According to the IMD, districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati are expected to face extreme heat and humidity between April 12–14, with conditions worsening after April 15.

Western Odisha districts such as Balangir, Bargarh, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda are likely to see mercury levels consistently touching 40°C, while coastal regions brace for oppressive humidity.

Authorities have urged residents to take precautionary measures, including staying hydrated, avoiding direct sun exposure, and limiting outdoor activities during peak hours.

This heatwave highlights the growing climate stress in Odisha, combining rising temperatures and humidity to create particularly harsh conditions for residents.
