Odisha Shines at Vishwakarma Awards with 17 National Honors
New Delhi/Bhubaneswar, April 11: Odisha has emerged as the top performer at the 17th Vishwakarma Awards, organised by the Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC) in New Delhi.
The state bagged 17 awards, including 10 projects submitted by the Odisha government, marking its dominance in infrastructure innovation and execution.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, present as the chief guest, emphasised the importance of innovation, transparency, and sustainability in the construction sector.
The Works Department won three awards for Lokayukta Bhawan, Mother & Child Hospital (Jajpur), and Cancer Hospital (Balangir).
The Water Resources Department secured five awards for projects, including the Gangadhar Meher Project, Purunagad Mega Lift, Bhanjanagar Dam, Mahabarida Anicut, and Lower Sukhtel Project.
The Sports Department was recognised for the Shuttle and Aquatic buildings at Kalinga Stadium, while the Police Housing Corporation earned honours for the modern hostel building at Gopabandhu Administrative Academy.
Other notable recognitions included NBCC’s Chinmay Ghosh for the IIM Sambalpur campus, AIIMS Bhubaneswar Director Dr Biswas, the RBI’s new data centre in Bhubaneswar, and the Koraput National Highway project.
Special mentions were made for former Chief Engineer Manoranjan Mishra’s book on lean construction, and veteran professionals Ashok Basa and Taraprasad Dhal for their contributions to the construction industry.
This achievement underscores Odisha’s leadership in infrastructure development and project excellence at the national level.
