Odisha Railway Budget Sees Historic 13‑Fold Growth in 12 Years
Odisha’s railway infrastructure has witnessed unprecedented expansion, with the budget allocation surging from Rs 838 crore in 2009–14 to Rs 10,928 crore in 2026–27 — a 13-fold increase.
Track construction has accelerated from 53 km per year to 186 km annually, reflecting the state’s growing importance in India’s rail network.
A total of 55 projects have been sanctioned, including 19 new lines and 36 doubling/widening works, covering 4,256 km at a cost of Rs 81,739 crore.
Completed projects such as Daitari-Bansapani, Jharsuguda-Sardega, Haridaspur-Paradip, and Sambalpur-Titlagarh have already boosted connectivity.
Station redevelopment is another highlight, with nine stations modernised under the Amrit Bharat scheme and work underway at 50 more, including Bhubaneswar, Puri, and Cuttack.
Odisha’s entire broad‑gauge network is now electrified, while 12 Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals are operational and 36 more approved.
Safety investments have also risen sharply, with electronic interlocking at 3,691 stations, fog safety devices expanded 352 times, and the Kavach automatic train protection system deployed across 3,955 km.
National railway safety funding has tripled to Rs 1,20,389 crore in 2026–27.
These developments promise faster trains, improved passenger facilities, and stronger freight movement, aligning with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
