Odisha Police Academy Hosts 13th Passing‑Out Parade; CM Majhi Urges SMART Policing
Bhubaneswar: The Biju Patnaik State Police Academy witnessed the graduation of its 13th batch of Cadet Sub‑Inspectors with a ceremonial passing‑out parade.
A total of 336 officers, including 70 women, joined the Odisha Police after two years of rigorous training.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, addressing the parade, emphasised the mantra “Protect the Innocent, Strike Hard on Crime” and highlighted the growing role of women in policing as a reflection of Odisha’s evolving social fabric.
He reiterated the state’s commitment to SMART policing principles — zero tolerance for corruption, strict discipline, and safeguarding the innocent while dealing firmly with criminals.
Majhi noted Odisha’s success in curbing Maoist violence with central support and set a target of achieving a drug‑free Odisha by 2029.
He linked effective law and order to industrial growth and prosperity, announcing that 17,794 new police positions have been created, with 5,817 filled in the past two years.
The Governor’s Medal was awarded to Cadet P. Nalini Rao, who received a trophy and a ₹10,000 cash prize.
Other outstanding cadets — Tejaswini Mohantaray, Judhisthira Behera, Laxman Kumar Mahanta, Sasmita Khuntia, Niharika Tripathy, and Asutosh Nayak — were also recognised.
DGP Vinaytosh Mishra urged the new officers to serve with courage and integrity, especially in tackling technological threats.
Academy Director Anup Kumar Sahu presented the annual report, while senior officials, trainers, families, and media attended the ceremony.
