Odisha Mandates ISI-Marked Products in Public Procurement
The Odisha government has made it mandatory for all departments to procure ISI-marked products, reinforcing its commitment to quality and consumer safety.
The directive was issued during the 3rd State Level Committee on Standardisation (SLCS) meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Anu Garg.
Departments have been instructed to reference Indian Standards in procurement processes to ensure accountability and reliability in government spending.
To strengthen infrastructure, plans are underway to establish a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Office-cum-Laboratory Complex in the state, enhancing product testing and certification capacity.
The initiative also emphasises grassroots awareness.
Training programs will be conducted for government personnel, while citizens are encouraged to use the BIS CARE App to verify ISI-marked goods and hallmarked jewellery.
Additionally, “Standards Clubs” will be expanded in schools to instil quality consciousness among students.
This move aims to embed Indian Standards across governance, education, and public service delivery, ensuring better consumer protection and improved service quality in Odisha.
