Odisha Launches ‘Sujala’ Campaign to Save Water, Protect Health

Bhubaneswar, Oct 2: The Housing and Urban Development Department of Odisha has launched the ‘Sujala’ Campaign, a statewide initiative to promote water conservation and public health.

Inaugurated by Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, the campaign will run from October 2 to 16 under the aegis of the Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO).

With the motto “Water Conservation—Today’s Necessity, Tomorrow’s Destiny,” the campaign emphasizes sustainable urban water management and safe drinking practices.

Citizens are being educated on the dangers of contaminated water, which can lead to diarrhoea, dysentery, typhoid, and jaundice.

The initiative urges households to adopt simple measures such as turning off taps when not in use, repairing leaks, storing water in clean containers, and practicing rainwater harvesting.

Communities are also advised to protect rivers, ponds, and tube wells from pollution.

Helplines 155359 and 1800-1216-833 have been activated for grievance redressal.

Officials reiterated the government’s message: “Water supply is our responsibility, water conservation is your duty.”

The inaugural event witnessed participation from MLA Babu Singh, Engineer‑in‑Chief Bilas Behera, WATCO MD Debabrata Mohapatra, and senior officials.

Citizens across Odisha are being encouraged to actively support the campaign to build clean, healthy, and sustainable urban communities.
