Odisha KGBV Hostel Food Poisoning: 92 Students Ill, Headmistress Suspended

Mayurbhanj, Odisha: A suspected case of food poisoning at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) hostel in Saragada, Bijatala block, left 92 girl students ill with diarrhoea and vomiting.

Several were rushed to Rairangpur Sub‑Divisional Hospital, while others received treatment on the school premises.

Following the incident, the Education Department suspended headmistress Hiramani Hembram and appointed Dulimani Soren as acting headmistress.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the food contamination, raising concerns about food safety standards in residential schools across the state.
