Odisha Issues Guidelines for Easy Access to 5kg LPG Cylinders

The Odisha Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Department has announced new measures to simplify access to 5kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders, particularly benefiting migrant workers and students.

Under the revised guidelines, individuals can obtain these cylinders by presenting a valid identity proof, without the need for address verification.

Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have been directed to organise special on‑the‑spot connection camps across the state to ensure smooth distribution.

Authorities emphasised that domestic LPG supply remains stable, while commercial supply has recovered to 70%. To safeguard essential services, 20% of the supply has been reserved for hospitals, schools, hostels, and Ahaar Kendras.

In a statewide enforcement drive, inspections at 1,633 locations led to the seizure of 3,105 cylinders and registration of 288 cases against illegal vendors engaged in black marketing and hoarding.

Officials reassured citizens that adequate stock is available at distributor levels and encouraged digital booking for transparency.

The government highlighted that 5kg cylinders are the most practical option for students and workers, offering portability and convenience without permanent address requirements.
