Odisha High Court Orders State to Act on Mental Health Awareness in Education
The Odisha High Court has directed the state government to submit an affidavit within three weeks outlining measures taken to promote mental health awareness across educational institutions.
The order came during the hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by SK Sabir Ally and others, which highlighted the urgent need for programs to reduce student stress, build emotional resilience, and spread awareness about mental health.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Harish Tandon and Justice Chittaranjan Dash emphasised that the government cannot remain indifferent to rising mental health concerns among students.
The court stressed the importance of comprehensive awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, and universities.
The petitioner’s counsel, Afraz Suhail, argued that structured awareness initiatives are essential to safeguard student well‑being.
The next hearing has been scheduled for October 15, 2026.
