Odisha Heatwave Claims Teacher’s Life Amid Census Work

Sundargarh, April 26: A tragic incident unfolded in Jarada village, Gurundia block of Bonai subdivision on Sunday when Anurag Ekka, an assistant teacher at Jarada Government Primary School, collapsed while performing census duties.

Witnesses said Ekka fell unconscious under the scorching heat. Locals rushed him to a nearby health centre, but doctors declared him dead due to heatstroke.

Originally from Balishankar in Sundargarh district, Ekka’s sudden death during government duty has left the community and fellow teachers in shock.

Residents described the day’s temperature as unbearable, underscoring the growing toll of Odisha’s heatwave on frontline workers.
