Minor’s Death Triggers Chaos at Basudevpur CHC

Bhadrak, April 26: Tension gripped Basudevpur Community Health Centre (CHC) on Sunday after the sudden death of a 15‑year‑old boy, Rocky, son of Debakanta Barik from Padmapur Melakasahi.

Rocky was admitted to the CHC after a bamboo splinter pierced his ankle while playing. Doctors dressed the wound and administered an injection.

However, shortly after treatment, the boy collapsed and died, leaving his family and locals in shock.

Angry residents alleged medical negligence, claiming that a wrong injection led to the tragedy.

Enraged crowds vandalised hospital property and staged a road blockade on the Basudevpur–Jamujhadi route, demanding compensation for the bereaved family and strict action against the medical staff.

Police from Basudevpur rushed to the spot, engaged with protesters, and assured them that the matter would be investigated.

Authorities appealed to the public to lift the blockade and restore calm.

This incident has once again raised concerns about healthcare accountability and the volatile public response to alleged negligence in Odisha.
