Odisha Excise Dept Nets Rs 1.43 Cr Contraband in Mega Crackdown
The Odisha Excise Department has intensified its crackdown on illicit liquor and narcotics through its ongoing Special Enforcement Drive, which began on December 20.
On the twelfth day of operations, officials seized contraband worth Rs 1.43 crore, underscoring the scale of illegal activity across the state.
During the drive, enforcement teams registered 280 cases and arrested 35 individuals, including three under the NDPS Act. Authorities also confiscated four vehicles linked to violations.
The seizures included 15,879 bulk litres of illicitly distilled liquor, 758 bulk litres of duty‑paid liquor, 1,40,050 bulk litres of fermented wash, 26,600 kg of gur wash, and 8 kg of bhang.
In addition, 63 kg of ganja was recovered, highlighting the department’s focus on curbing narcotics trafficking.
Officials emphasised that the Special Enforcement Drive aims to strengthen compliance with excise laws, safeguard public health, and protect state revenue.
The department reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations in the coming days, reaffirming the government’s determination to combat contraband across Odisha.
