Odisha Declares War on Drugs: 100‑Week Youth Campaign Launched
Odisha has rolled out the 100‑week “Nasha Mukt Yuva – Vikashit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan” at Kalinga Stadium, under the MY Bharat initiative of the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Governor Dr Haribabu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Minister Surjyabanshi Suraj joined the campaign, with over one crore youth participating virtually across 10,000 locations nationwide.
Governor Kambhampati administered the pledge, urging youth to replace addiction with sports, fitness, yoga, and social service.
He emphasised collective responsibility from parents, teachers, and institutions.
Chief Minister Majhi declared Zero Tolerance against narcotics, highlighting police action between July 2024–June 2026:
- 63,720 acres of illegal cannabis destroyed (worth Rs 1,911 crore)
- 2,576 cases registered
- 3,699 arrests
- 432 tons of ganja seized (worth Rs 2,106 crore)
Majhi warned drug mafias of bulldozer‑style action and urged citizens to report suspicious activity.
Rehabilitation centres for addicts are being strengthened, and youth were encouraged to take the “Say No to Drugs” pledge.
Minister Surjyabanshi Suraj stressed the role of schools, colleges, MY Bharat clubs, NSS units, and sports hostels in driving the campaign.
The event saw strong participation across 453 centres in Odisha, with over 1.6 lakh people joining the live broadcast.
