Michael Biopic Tops India Box Office on Day 1, Outshines Bollywood Releases

Mumbai, April 25: The highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic, starring Jaafar Jackson, made a strong debut at the Indian box office, earning Rs 5.50 crore net on its opening day, including previews.

Gross collections crossed Rs 6.60 crore, making it one of the most successful openings for a musical biopic in India.

Paid previews alone contributed Rs 2.40 crore, underscoring the film’s popularity among audiences.

The movie outperformed several Bollywood releases, including Ginny Weds Sunny 2 (Rs 30 lakh), Bhooth Bangla (Rs 5.15 crore), and Dhurandhar 2 (Rs 1.60 crore).

Globally, early reports indicate earnings of around $30 million, positioning the film among the strongest worldwide openings for a musical biopic.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan, the film traces Michael Jackson’s journey from his Jackson 5 beginnings to global superstardom with Thriller.

The cast includes Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo.

Despite mixed reviews, the film’s box office success highlights enduring audience interest in the King of Pop’s legacy and biographical storytelling.
