Mahanadi Talks: Odisha, Chhattisgarh Begin 11‑Day Delhi Deliberations

The long‑standing Mahanadi water dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh entered a crucial phase today as the Tribunal‑mandated 11‑day deliberations commenced in New Delhi.

From June 16 to June 26, 2026, technical and legal teams from both states will engage in intensive discussions to resolve contentious issues surrounding water sharing.

The Central Water Commission (CWC) has been tasked with providing support during the proceedings, ensuring that data and technical expertise guide the dialogue.

The Tribunal has directed that the outcomes of these deliberations be formally submitted for review.

The next hearing of the Tribunal is scheduled for June 27, 2026, where the progress made during these sessions will be assessed.

The dispute, which has persisted for years, remains critical for Odisha’s downstream interests and Chhattisgarh’s upstream projects, making this round of talks pivotal for both states.
