Love Turns Fatal in Barbil: Youth Arrested for Brutal Murder of Girlfriend
Barbil: A shocking incident has rocked Barbil in Kendujhar district, where a young man allegedly murdered his girlfriend over suspicion of infidelity.
Police have arrested the accused and seized incriminating evidence, including weapons and a motorcycle.
According to Barbil Police Station Case No. 239 dated 07.06.2026, the accused Sangram Alda (22), a resident of Jhadgaon village, brutally killed Anita Mahakud, his 2–3 year-long partner and neighbour.
Investigations revealed that Sangram had left the village a few months ago and grew suspicious that Anita was involved with another person. Consumed by anger, he plotted to end her life.
On May 11, 2026, around 4 PM, Sangram called Anita to meet him in the forest behind their village.
Anita, carrying a small water bucket, told her family she was going to attend nature’s call.
At the spot, an argument broke out between the two, following which Sangram attacked Anita’s throat with a knife and continued assaulting her until she succumbed.
He initially concealed the body and later transported it by motorcycle to Kolharjoda forest, where he buried it in a burrow and covered it with leaves and soil.
Police, aided by a scientific team and dog squad, recovered the body and other materials in the presence of an Executive Magistrate.
Two knives, a Yamaha MT-15 motorcycle, and a mobile phone were seized. The accused confessed to the crime and was arrested.
Further investigation is underway.
