Keonjhar’s Most Wanted Criminal Injured in Police Encounter

Keonjhar police injured notorious criminal Prabhat Malik during an early morning encounter in the Mahuldiha forest on Tuesday.

Malik, who faces over 40 criminal cases including extortion and robbery, sustained a bullet wound to his right knee after allegedly opening fire while attempting to escape custody.

Police recovered a firearm and Rs 12,000 in cash from him. Malik had been taken to the forest to recover hidden loot when he tried to flee around 4 a.m.

He accessed a concealed weapon and fired at officers, prompting police to retaliate in self-defence.

Initially admitted to Keonjhar Medical College, Malik was later shifted to SCB Medical College in Cuttack due to excessive blood loss.

Local residents expressed relief, calling the action a step toward curbing organised crime in the district.

Authorities continue investigations into Malik’s activities and his involvement in recent loot cases.
