Inspector Beauty Mohanty Death in Cuttack: Family Blames Work Pressure
Cuttack: In a shocking incident, Inspector Beauty Mohanty (40) was found dead by suicide inside the restroom of Chauliaganj Police Station early Saturday morning.
A dedicated officer who joined the Odisha Police in 2010, Mohanty had served in the Ganjam Commissionerate and as IIC in Markatnagar, Pahala, and Kataka Women’s Police Station.
She was widely respected for her ability to resolve domestic disputes and maintain strong public relations.
Living in government quarters with her 10‑year‑old son and mother‑in‑law, Mohanty’s husband works in Mumbai.
Family members allege that unbearable work pressure following her recent transfer to Chauliaganj PS pushed her to the brink.
They claim she was handling heavy workloads, often returning home at 2–3 AM, and had requested a transfer to spend more time with her son but was denied leave.
Senior officers, Mayor Subash Singh, and former MLA Pravat Biswal joined colleagues in paying tribute.
The Commissionerate Police have registered a case of unnatural death, sealed the restroom, and sent her phone for forensic examination. Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh assured a thorough investigation.
A video of Mohanty urging citizens to cooperate with police has gone viral, intensifying public grief.
The tragedy has reignited debate on the mental stress and workload challenges faced by police personnel, particularly women balancing professional duties and family responsibilities.
