Former Tahasildar in Bolangir Convicted for Rs 20K Bribe, Gets 3 Years Jail

Bolangir: In a major anti‑corruption development, Odisha Vigilance secured the conviction of Rajendra Choudhury, ORS, Former Additional Tahasildar of Deogaon Tahasil, Bolangir district.

On June 2, 2026, the Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Bolangir, pronounced Choudhury guilty under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. He was sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 10,000.

The case dates back to when Choudhury was charge‑sheeted for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant in exchange for issuing a transit pass in Y‑Form. Vigilance officials had laid a trap and recovered the bribe amount.

Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance has announced it will move the competent authority to stop Choudhury’s pension benefits as per rules governing convicted government officials.
