Odisha Fast-Tracks Affordable Housing Projects to Benefit 10,000 Urban Families

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has intensified its efforts to provide affordable housing and improve urban living conditions, with plans set to benefit nearly 10,000 families across nine Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).

The decision was taken during the third Executive Committee Meeting of the Odisha Liveable Habitat Mission (OLHM), chaired by Additional Chief Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department, Usha Padhee.

During the meeting, officials reviewed the progress of housing initiatives and directed concerned authorities to expedite the implementation of the Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) component.

Since housing plans for all nine ULBs have already been finalised, the government stressed the need for swift execution to ensure timely benefits for eligible urban households.

The committee also discussed projects under the Chief Minister Smart City Mission and emphasised the early finalisation of operational guidelines to accelerate urban development initiatives.

Special focus will be placed on the housing and welfare needs of vulnerable sections of society, including landless families, destitute individuals, senior citizens, and other marginalised groups.

The government reiterated its commitment to ensuring that urban development remains inclusive and equitable.

In addition, officials were instructed to align the 2026-27 budget with targeted initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for economically weaker urban residents.

The committee underscored the importance of people-centric investments that can generate measurable social impact.

The Executive Committee also adopted the audited financial statements and annual report for FY 2025-26, approved the Annual Action Plan and Budget Estimates for FY 2026-27, and ratified expenditures incurred during the previous financial year.

The developments reflect Odisha’s continued focus on building liveable, inclusive, and sustainable urban spaces through affordable housing and targeted urban welfare interventions.
