Deogarh Schools Shut Till June 20 as Heatwave Intensifies

Deogarh district administration has ordered the closure of all schools up to Class X until June 20, 2026, in view of the severe heatwave sweeping western Odisha.

The directive aims to safeguard students from extreme temperatures that have persisted across the region.

While regular classes remain suspended, scheduled examinations will be conducted in the morning hours to minimise exposure to the scorching afternoon heat.

Authorities have instructed schools to ensure safe drinking water, shaded areas, and proper ventilation during exam sessions.

Parents have welcomed the move, citing unbearable conditions for children in the afternoons.

Teachers have been asked to adjust exam timings accordingly.

The administration has indicated that schools will reopen on June 22, 2026, provided weather conditions improve.

This proactive measure reflects the district’s commitment to prioritising student health and safety during extreme weather events.
