Dahibara Aloodum proposed as Cuttack’s signature Cuisine under National Scheme

Bhubaneswar, Dec 3 (UNI ) The Odisha government has proposed Dahibara Aloodum, the iconic street food of Cuttack, to the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) as the official cuisine of Cuttack district under the “One District, One Cuisine” scheme.

MSME Minister Gokulananda Mallik shared this information in the State Assembly on Wednesday while responding to a question raised by Congress MLA Sofia Firdous.

The Minister stated that this move would help promote Dahibara Aloodum at both the national and international levels, enhancing its recognition and popularity.

Mallik also said that if any association, individual, or stakeholder involved with Dahibara Aloodum applies for a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, the MSME Department, acting as the nodal agency, will assist them in completing the registration process with the GI Registry in Chennai.

However, the department itself cannot directly apply for a GI tag due to provisions in the existing Act, the minister stated.
So far, 27 products from Odisha have been registered with GI tags, while nine more are currently in process.
