Cyclone Murasu to Trigger Heavy Rainfall Across South Odisha, IMD Issues Alert

Bhubaneswar, Nov 1: Several districts of South Odisha are likely to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall under the influence of Cyclonic Storm “Murasu”, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of strong winds and potential weather-related disruptions over the next few days.

According to IMD Director Manorama Mohanty, heavy rainfall activity is expected to commence in Ganjam and Gajapati districts from Monday.

Wind speeds may reach up to 60 kmph, accompanied by widespread precipitation across the southern region of the state.

The weather system is projected to intensify on November 3 and 4, bringing the heaviest rainfall during this period.

Districts including Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri have been identified as high-risk zones and are expected to receive extremely heavy downpours.

The IMD has also forecast sustained wind speeds of 50-60 kmph, with gusts likely to touch 70 kmph during the peak phase of the storm.

Authorities have warned that strong winds could damage weak structures, uproot trees, and disrupt power supply in vulnerable areas.

Local administrations and emergency response teams have been placed on heightened alert to tackle possible waterlogging, tree falls, and other cyclone-related incidents.

Residents in low-lying and coastal areas have been advised to remain vigilant and follow official weather advisories.

The cyclonic system is expected to gradually weaken from November 5, after which rainfall activity is likely to become isolated and less intense.
