CM Majhi Launches Sambalpur Doppler Radar, ₹960 Cr Projects
Sambalpur, Odisha: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated India’s 51st Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) station in Sambalpur, marking a new era in disaster preparedness and regional development.
Alongside the radar launch, he unveiled 50 development projects worth ₹960 crore, spanning healthcare, sports, rural infrastructure, roads, and irrigation.
The Sambalpur radar, Odisha’s third after Paradip and Gopalpur, will operate round‑the‑clock, covering 13 districts and parts of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
With 150‑meter resolution updates every 10 minutes, it will track thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and aid crop protection in the Mahanadi basin while supporting Hirakud Reservoir inflow management.
Between January and September 2026, Sambalpur has seen projects worth ₹1,910 crore, including the ₹450 crore “Drink from Tap” initiative under AMRUT 2.0.
Industrial expansion is also underway, with Hindalco’s ₹40,000 crore Lapanga project and JSW‑JFE Steel’s ₹32,000 crore Rengali venture.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh announced plans for 40 more Doppler radars nationwide, while Odisha’s CM pledged installations in Baleshwar, Bhubaneswar, and Puri.
State Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari emphasised a “Zero Casualty” disaster mitigation strategy.
The event was attended by senior leaders including Rajya Sabha MP Manmohan Samal, MLA Jayanarayan Mishra, IMD DG Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, and Special Relief Commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil.
